Executive Coaching for New Leaders

Unleash your leadership

Overcome self-doubt and lead with confidence with 1-1 coaching

You’ve done really well in your career and you’re in the leadership role you’ve always wanted. But now you’re here, self-doubt and impostor syndrome are taking hold.

You’re in one of these two situations

In your first leadership role

You’re newly promoted to your first leadership role – perhaps to Director or Head of – and you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Stepping up to a new role

You’re stepping up to a more senior role – maybe a Senior Director or Partner – and your inner critic is having a field day.

Stepping up to leadership can feel like you’re drinking from a firehose

Everyone wants a piece of you

When demands are coming in at you from all directions, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed. You’re delivering, but you’re working all hours trying to keep on top of everything. It’s taking its toll – your stress levels, your sleep, your life.

You’re on the front line

You’re answerable to senior stakeholders who demand your opinions and insights. You often have to make decisions without having all the facts. It’s not surprising you’re worried you’ll say or do the wrong thing.

You don’t want to overload your team

You have so much on your plate, you really need your team to take on more. But you’re worried if they can cope. To be honest, sometimes it feels good to get in the weeds with them and do what you know.

You’re worried you’re going to put a foot wrong

Everyone thinks you’re fine, but, on the inside, you’re full of worry and self-doubt. You feel like a swan, serene on the surface but paddling furiously underneath.

“When I took on a new leadership role, I felt overwhelmed. Alison helped me feel calmer and more in control through shifts in my mindset and state, enabling me to lead with greater impact. I lost count of how many sessions ended with me feeling like I had had an epiphany. I truly believe that Alison’s magic dust is real!”

Joao Figueiredo, Head of Credit risk modelling, Banking

Coaching helps you become the confident leader you want to be.

Wave goodbye to self-doubt, say hello to self-belief.

Coaching will help you:

Worry less, achieve more.

Overcome stress, banish impostor syndrome and stop your inner critic holding you back.

Take back control of your day.

Focus on what matters and push back on what isn’t so you can have the impact you want – and restore your work life balance.

Communicate with impact.

Get your message across with clarity, conviction and confidence, whether a challenging conversation or an executive meeting.

Empower your team.

Know when to step back and when to step in. Create the conditions for your team to perform at their best.

Take challenges in your stride.

Stay calm and collected in the face of pressure and uncertainty, confident you can deal with anything that comes your way.

“As a new Director, I suffered from impostor syndrome and didn’t feel like a leader. Alison helped me reframe my thoughts, stay calm and effective in challenging situations and create space to focus on what matters. As a result, I have more self-belief, feel more confident and see myself as a leader who deserves a seat at the table.”

Joanne Paine, Director of Treasury and Property Information, Social Housing

Your coaching journey

Set your vision & goals

Before our first session, I’ll invite you to complete a comprehensive questionnaire and confidence assessment to help you get clear on where you are and where you want to be. When we meet up, we’ll discuss your insights, firm up your vision and goals, and start work.

Coaching

We’ll meet for one hour coaching sessions every 2 – 4 weeks. Before each call, I’ll send you questions to help you prepare. We’ll work on one or more specific challenges you’re facing and you’ll take away insights and actions.

Review & consolidation

Towards the end of your coaching programme, I’ll share some questions to help you reflect on your entire coaching journey. You’ll capture your progress and identify any remaining challenges you’d like us to work on.

Staying on track

It’s totally normal to find the odd new habit slipping after your coaching programme. We’ll check in 3 months after your programme for a 30 minute coaching call and zone in on any areas of challenge.

Coaching isn’t leadership training

Coaching isn’t about giving you skills, advice or tips. It’s about helping you change the way you see yourself and the world for the better so that you can become the leader you want to be.

It involves getting underneath the surface, understanding how your thoughts, feelings and habits are getting in the way of what you want, and empowering you to make new choices that help you achieve your goals.

You’re not hardwired – you can change, but it’s not easy to turn around decades of conditioning.

You can get benefit from a one-off coaching session. However, changing patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour for the better takes awareness, courage and practice. Not to mention working through the myriad of situations you will encounter during our coaching together.

As your coach, I will hold you accountable for the actions you commit to and work with you to overcome obstacles to making changes. That’s why I work with clients for at least 6 months so that they can embed and embody change.

“Alison is an exceptional executive coach who has been fantastic in helping me navigate the complex situations and challenges I faced stepping into a new leadership role. Her insightful and intelligent questions have led me to some profound realisations, actionable strategies and sustainable outcomes. Alison’s expertise and dedication have truly made a difference to my leadership.”

Dominic Lambillion, HR Leader, Big Four

I coach leaders at some great organisations

“As a newly promoted FD, I struggled with impostor syndrome and felt pressure to have all the answers. Alison helped me challenge the assumptions holding me back so I could better understand what drives my team, hold them accountable, and assert myself with senior stakeholders. I always left our sessions feeling positive and energised, and I’m a more confident and impactful leader as a result.

Frank Richardson, Finance Director, University of Kent

What it’s like to work with me

Master your mind

I want you to be the master of your mind, not a slave to it. I’ll help you raise awareness of unhelpful ways of thinking and introduce you to techniques to get the Voice in your Head working for you, not against you.

Manage your state

When you feel stressed or frustrated, it’s hard to be the leader you aspire to be. I’ll help you learn to recognise negative emotional states and share techniques to help you feel calmer, think more clearly and act with confidence.

Communicate with courage

Speaking up for what’s important to you, whether expressing your opinion, giving feedback or asking for a pay rise, can feel challenging. We’ll identify situations where you may be finding it hard to say what you want and I’ll help you with the clarity, conviction and courage to find your voice.

Hi, I’m Alison and I’m here to help you become the calm, confident leader you want to be.

I help leaders banish self-doubt and restore their confidence and self-belief with mind-body strategies grounded in the latest neuroscience. After coaching hundreds of leaders over the last 20 years, I know how to help you stop self-doubt sabotaging your success.

Over time, I’ve realised the main barrier to high-achievers like you realising your aspirations isn’t talent or skill – it’s the F-Word : Fear. A completely normal response to the pressure of leading yourself and others in challenging environments.

I coach leaders because I love helping them overcome the fear and self-doubt that gets in the way of them unleashing their glorious selves in their life and work. Worry less, achieve more.

“When I began working with Alison, I’d recently taken on my first executive leadership role, feeling the weight of the pressure that comes with new responsibilities and high expectations. Our coaching helped me find clarity and control. I have gained some incredibly valuable techniques and learnings that help me stay grounded, present, and strategic – the kind of leader I aspire to be. Today, I lead with focus and intention, and with a deeper sense of purpose.”

Georgina Randsley de Moura, Acting Vice Chancellor, Higher Education

FAQs

How much you get out of your coaching experience will depend on how much you put in.

Here are some tips from my experience coaching leaders like you :

  • Give yourself permission. Committing to coaching is a big commitment to yourself. Give yourself permission to make time for developing yourself as an individual and a leader.
  • Do the work. I’ll send you “homework” at the beginning of our work together and before each of our sessions. Some of the questions I ask you to reflect on may feel hard, but will help you build your awareness, accelerate your learning and zone in on what you want me to help you with.
  • Take action. You’ll be committing to actions and practices in our sessions. Action is the rocket fuel for awareness and change. Even if it doesn’t go to plan, you will learn from your experience and I can help you overcome any challenges you face.
  • Reflect. Becoming more aware of what you’re thinking and feeling, what you’re learning, and what you want is an important part of the coaching journey.
  • Use me. I invite you to keep in touch on WhatsApp inbetween our coaching sessions. You are welcome to update me on what’s been going on or ask me for input on a situation you’re dealing with.

Coaching carries no guaranteed outcome because you’re the only one who can take action in service of your goals. Saying that, I’ll be walking alongside you throughout your coaching journey and I’ll only be an email or WhatsApp message away.

The coaching agenda is led by you. At the beginning of our journey, we’ll get clear on your goals for our coaching together.

Before each session, I’ll invite you to think about a specific challenge or opportunity in relation to your goals that you’d like me to help you explore. When it’s appropriate, I may suggest areas for discussion that I think will help you achieve your coaching objectives.

Each session, you’ll take away insights, learnings and actions that will have a broader impact than the specific issue we’ve discussed.

We’ll schedule our coaching sessions at mutually convenient times, usually 2 – 4 weeks apart. Often, the first few sessions will be closer together as we get into the work. But it’s flexible to your wants and needs, and our respective availability.

I usually recommend we get our diaries out at the end of each session to plan the next one, so no need to plan too far ahead unless you wish to do so.

I generally have availability daytime Tuesday – Thursday. If you have limited availability or want a particular slot, I’m happy to schedule multiple sessions in advance.

You can reschedule sessions with at least 48 hours’ notice.

I understand that it can sound a lot at first. However, a lot of the actions and practices you take away from our sessions will be things you’ll do in the course of your everyday life and work – you won’t usually need to schedule extra time to do them.

To be honest, most clients find that coaching helps them be more focussed, more effective and often work less.

Payment is due upfront before our first session. If you’re funding the coaching yourself, I understand it can help to spread the cost so I offer the option to pay in three monthly instalments with a 10% surcharge.

All coaching sessions take place on video call, usually Zoom or Teams, which means I can coach you wherever you are in the world. I currently have clients in the US, Europe and Asia. Coaching is equally effective by phone if you prefer that.

“When I started working with Alison, I’d just been promoted to Executive Director and was adjusting to the demands of the new role. Coaching with her has been transformative. I’ve learned to lead more and do less, to focus on people rather than task, and to stay calm under pressure. She helped me clarify my leadership goals, improve my decision-making, and navigate complex challenges.”

Richard White, Executive Director, Residential Development
